Woah was it a shocker when I walked in. It was a different gym then I had been going to before and I could not get over ALL of the crazy toned and fit people in there. I swear everyone, well pretty much everyone are insanely fit. It was obvious where their focus & determination was vs mine. It could have made me run out of there crying and thinking I’m so far away from that, I could never look like that, I am so embarrassed, I don’t fit in, this gym is way to crowded, or too many beautiful people or this or that. But I choose not to and I know if I too put in the extra effort and make the time and focus then I will get the results that I want. I can and I will.
Here are a few tips to think about and prepare for when going back into or being a newbie at the gym.
1. Schedule it.
If you’re running late and will have less than an hour to work out at the gym and think Well there is no use in going now. STILL GO!!! Some is better than none and you can still accomplish a lot in even 30 minutes. Or scratch the gym and workout from home and you can be working out the extra minutes it takes to drive back and forth to the gym and get your full time in.
2. Plan workouts.
3.Create a fun workout play list in your phone or iPod.
4. Don’t forget your headphones!!.
That’s the worst -Now you’ve went to all this time making your playlist and you forgot your headphones. Music really does help you get through the workouts weather doing cardio or doing weights. And not having your headphones is lame!!
Having options and cute ones to wear helps. It makes your feel better and helps looking forward to going to the gym. I totally came into the gym so out dated in style – let me give you a heads up! Bootleg workout pants, and arm bands aren’t the thing any more. You don’t have to spend a ton of money either if you’re on a budget! Old Navy, TJ Maxx, Target, Costco , even Sams can have great options that are inexpensive and cute. And of course if budget allows and you love to pay $80 for workout pants Lulu Lemon and Albion Fit, you can get crazy cute stuff there as well.
If you have cute clothes to wear it makes you more excited & happy to put them on and go workout.
I’m sure there is science backed evidence of this somewhere?! 🙂
6. Get a belt for you iPhone or iPod.
Better than an armband. I love the runnong/gym belts. Wear it under your shirt, slide the headphones under shirt and your not messing with cords and headphones getting yanked out of your ears. You can get them on Amazon.
7. Don’t wear white socks with black shoes.
8. Keep track of your water bottle.
Get an accountability partner &/or a gym buddy. Some people need a buddy to workout with and that holds them accountable. If that’s you DO IT!!! It is fun running with someone else or doing weights together or being with in the class. Tell you husband, your sister, best friend what your goals are, what you plan to do about it and let them know you want their support and to hold you accountable. Check in at least once a week. And let them know in advance if they don’t hear from you, make sure they check in with you.
10. Stay Positive and Remember to reward yourself.
YOU’RE DOING GOOD. GOOD JOB!!
It’s not easy staying committed and creating new habits again. It takes a lot longer to lose weight than to put it on!! Why is that??? Just remember to keep going. You will see the little changes. They are coming. and when they do keep at it. At the end of the day tell your self , your proud of the changes you make each day. No matter how little they are. Set goals. What is your big goal and work back to the little in between goals and reward yourself with something each time your reach one of your smaller goals heading to the big goal!! Massage, pedicure, new gym outfit, a new shirt. You get the idea.
What are your tips and must have and do’s for the gym? What are your health and fitness goals?
If you need me to be your accountability partner let me know!! I’ll be right here doing it along with you, cheering you
Much love & wellness
